Nope ... taking it through EC is the only way to satisfy it. It's not a difficult course, just kinda pricey.
Didn't I just "see" you on the allnurses forum? Hee hee!

I'm sure you did see me over all all-nurses..I'm there about 23 hours a day!!!!! The course is now $290, that is crazy for a 1 hour class.

What does the IL class entail? Is it time consuming to take?

I'm signed up for the class starting 9-4-07...it goes until Christmas!
I have never taken an Excelsior on-line course so have no idea what I am doing. Anyone have any pointers? Is there even a book for this one?

There isn't a book. It's all done online through EC's website. I think I spent about ... two days on it? Three days? Something like that. It's not difficult. You read the modules (there are five, I believe -- could be wrong) and take little quizzes for each module, then take the final exam. It's not a difficult course at all. Much of it is fair use/common sense information.

The course really isn't too bad and I am computer illiterate. I did mine in one day. According to EC, there may be other courses that would satisfy this but you need to find out directly from them. Besides, it'd still be the same type of course. Just bit the bullet and get it over with. I actually picked up some cool tips on using the internet.

You are right -- EC will accept another school's Info Lit class for credit, but only if it covers the exact same material (all five modules) as theirs does. Or they'll waive the requirement if you have a Masters degree -- I guess they figure you know a thing or two if you have a Masters. LOL

How do they test? are there "assignments" to be done? I wish I could access it now instead of waiting for 9/4/07....when I signed up i though you had to take the entire time to do it..duh!
(guess that shows maybe I NEED the course!)
Thanks, BJ

Have you taken any of the EC practice tests? They're very similar. I think each of the module quizzes has about 10 questions. It's multiple choice. Those quizzes don't count towards the final grade ... they're just to reinforce the lessons, I guess. The final exam is 100 questions (also multiple choice), and the whole thing is a pass/fail -- no letter grade. There aren't any assignments, really. Not that I remember!

Lisa is right. I took this whole class on a rainy saturday afternoon. The final was pass/fail and you can have any of the information printed out and used during the previous quizzes. It really wasn't that bad and the question answers were right off the quiz material.

Thanks, folks. Appreciate the info/encouragement. I won't worry about this one, then. I take NC3 in a week and NC6 two weeks later so will concentrate on those.
It really does make a difference to have people like you telling others how things went for you. (Especially for us old farts who have been out of school a bizillion years).
