Where are you stationed? My last active duty station was aboard the USS Midway in Yokosuka, Japan.

Hello All, I am curious as to what you think of going this route to get you RN. I was a Medic in the Air Force and the first blush look by Admin dept says I'm eligible for the program. Its been a number of years (19) since I was working this field but think I can get back up to speed fairly quickly. I spent 5 years running a shift in the emergency room and have a BS degree in Health Care Admin. I'm looking at an early retirement from my current job and want to get back into the health care field as an RN. Should I try to pursue this or just get set out to pasture..LOL

I think if it is something you want to do then go for it. I have no regrets as of yet and since you already have on degree then your prereqs are probaly already covered.

It allowed me to get into the program. Other colleges had used my military experience to give me credits in PE, health and a few other classes and they transferred into Excelsior. When they did my eval they did not give me any specific credits based on corpsman experience. I had to take all seven nursing exams and a micobiology class.

Welcome aboard. You get out of this program what you are willing to put into it. I am still studying for NC3. For some reason this exam scares me and I never seem to feel ready for it. If I can help or offer advice let me know. Dave

Hi all.
I am just getting started with EC. I have been out of the Navy for 2 years. Still waiting for my evaluations. Not sure which books I really need to purchase.

Welcome aboard. I got out several years ago. Working on NC 4 right now. Wait till after your eval and see which classes or exams you need to take. I usually by my books online at amazon or half.com. Just get the ISBN number and see if you can find them at a decent price. There is alot of good advice on this board. If you have any questions about the process just ask. I find out something new just about everyday.

Another option on finding the needed books is to put in a request to your local library. They probably won't have any of them on hand, but usually can get most of them through inter-library loans. Just make sure the request is specific as in the correct Tiltle, authors, year of publish and Edition.
The only down side is the limitation on how long the book can be checked out. I usually got off with paying a small late fee before requesting another book for the next test. Downside is book loan time, but big plus in not having to pay out alot of money on books, some of which you only need to get you through that one exam.
