Hello again from Vermont,

I was bummed out for a good long while as I found out that Vermont is not accepting a licensed Excelsior nurse unless they work for 450 hrs as an RN in another state.

I am now reconsidering doing the LPN to BSN program through Indiana State University(The College Network does part of it).  I already have a BA so I probably won't need any of the general education courses.

I have also thought of working in New York for the required number of hours, as I am just across the border.

Time passes & I am undecided.

The good thing about the Indiana State program is that all clinicals are done locally with a preceptor & I wouldn't have to take the 2 1/2 day clinical.

Does anyone out there have any experience or heard about the Indiana State program?

The EC way seems enticing too!  I just don't know what to do.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Honestly, if I were an LPN, I'd seriously consider ISU's program. I ultimately want to go back to get my BSN, so if I could do RN and BSN in one shot through distance learning, I would. But I'm a Paramedic, so that wasn't an option for me!

You should check out the Allnurses distance learning forum: http://allnurses.com/forums/f125/ -- there are a few people on there doing ISU's LPN-BSN.

I'm glad EC was an option for me -- there aren't any Paramedic bridge programs where I live, so I would have had to start from scratch.

Welcome back!!

I believe that as an RN you can become licensed in any state and work for the VA (Veterans Administration) anywhere in the US, including VT.

Maybe an option?

Peace and best of luck.

think of it this way:
450 hours is approx 56 days or two and half months working 8 hour shifts for 5 days per week.

do you know how quickly 2.5 mos will pass?

if you do the ADN from Excelsior you can do a bridge program to an MSN after working for a couple of yrs as a RN..no need to do BSN if u already have a BA

my 2 cents: If I  were you I'd do the Excelsior route....

but then thats me...

dont think too long though..rules change all the time and often for the worse!

good luck!
