Someone recently recommended a book called "Microbiology Demystified" as a great study tool for Micro. I started with A&P, and I'm not even going to tell you how long it took me to study for that one ... I keep telling myself that it was two semesters' worth of material, but still. Smiley Yeah, it took me a while to get into the groove of it, but I now have A&P and NC1 done. (And Information Literacy, which I did last year.) I guess it's just a matter of making it a habit vs. a chore.

Have you finished micro?  If you haven't, perhaps try a local community colleges' bookstore to see if they sell notes for a micro class.  Kind of like cliff notes, or at least it will show you what's important.

Hey all,
I'm a FF/pmdc from metro atlanta.  I've been a medic in 2 states (north and south) for 11 years.  I've noticed that alot of my peers either went to med school or PA school.  We'll I don
t have enough time or money to do either.  I was in nursing school for my BSN before I became a medic.  Since I don't want to be bouncing around a ambulance or fire truck till I'm 55, nursing seems like my next career.  I'm taking my microbiology now and I can't seem to get into the grove of studying.  Anyone have any guides or CLEP info for passing it?  Thanks for the help.

Im too old for this stuff..

Im a broken medic from Portland, OR.  I have been working for the same private ambulance transport provider for the last 7 years. Im not sure if the forum shows how old we are but Im 25 and I AM DONE!  In Novemeber I tore L4/L5 and buldge L5/S1, my doc sent me back to full duty at the end of Feb. Last weeek I tore L4/L5 worse,a dn herniated L5/S1. I have been sitting on my Excelsior stuff for a year or so and have decided to get on it now.  There are so many more avenues that a nurse can take even with lifting restrictions that a medic can't. You either can life 160 ponds or you can't and if you can't you get sent to pushing papers with the billing people until your 120 days of light duty runs out.  I jsut finished Micro at a Community College. If you want to get your BSN MSN anywhere other then through Excelsior you have to have Micro with a lab. Micor was a lot of fun and you are missing out on the best parts if you just read a book and take the test.

Hi lindsi_17!! I'm an Oregonian by birth (Coos Bay), but I'm way over here on the east coast ... long story. Anyway, I'll be in Portland to vacation/visit family next month -- woo hoooo!! Good times.  Grin

I am SO SORRY about your back ... and at the age of 25, that just shouldn't be happening to you. Definitely get on that Excelsior stuff! Smiley

I'm not sure ... I think there's just a slight difference in the amount of some arts/sciences, or something like that.

:throws my hat in the circle of medic to RN:

I am in western NC, been riding the ambulance since 1991 and like someone said..  I don't wanna be 50 and pulling drunks outta cars at 3am!  My body is a bit tired and I want to curve my career path before it is past the point of no return.  Nursing also has way better options than paramedic...  not to mention money!  LOL!

Stef...  Always a paramedic...

Another medic here from Georgia. Been doing this 18 years and I'm ready to do this and get it over with. I've known for a while now that i needed to do my RN but I'm finally accepting it and making plans to move forward.
