Hi, very new here! I was duped  by TCN  but never the less I am over half way done. I am bridging from Medics to ASN and I have just recently failed my 1st of 7 classes and just enrolled in Excelsior I finally paid for a practice Exam and did decent.

Pros,
no driving, no teachers, no time away from home family.
Cons,
just found this study group could of used it a while ago. so kinda a con.
I really need help with study material and where to go for CPNE.

Maggie, I'm a big fan of StudyGroup101's material -- http://www.studygroup101.com -- as well as a few of the regular textbooks! TCN just didn't cover it all, in my experience. The EC practice exams are great, though!!

Well, I don't know if this forum is still open but I have a lot of questions and I know there are a lot of pros and cons.  I am enrolled in the LPN to RN program through College Network/Excelsior.  I just took my first exam and failed but not by much.  I've studied off and on since January, but I have slacked and I just couldn't choose the right answer because of the way the question was worded or how the answer was worded.  I need help.  I just can't grasp what they are actually asking for.  I know some questions need to be answered according to Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, and by ABC'c, and by priority or delegation or by Nursing Process.  It's just that I have trouble eliminating answers because there is always two that are most alike.  I don't know.  I hate it that I failed the first one and yep, I'm paying for all of my schooling on my own out of pocket and it's almost 300.00 for each exam plus I have to travel one hour away to take the exams.  It's definitely not cheap.  I too have heard that this program is not accredited and that some places will not hire Excelsior grads.  Why is that?  Is it because they like to hire those students who trained or who attended clinicals at their facility?  I think that may have a lot to do with it.  I dread clinicals...I get so nervous.  So what happens when you fail clinicals?  Can you re-peat them?  I get test anxiety too.  I don't know.    Undecided

ok....#1...You are enrolled through EC...NOT TCN.  TCN is merely a publishing company and is in NO WAY affiliated with EC.
#2...EC IS accredited.  Some states do not accept the program because there is no clinical study...just clinical exam.  If they understood what this exam is, they might change their minds!  When I went to LVN school and took Clinicals, there were no exams on real patients...much easier than this exam!
#3...Don't worry that you failed the first exam.  You got your feet wet and now it is time to learn to swim.  These tests are set up just like the NCLEX questions.  Be sure to take the practice tests EC has.  Go to flashcardexchange.com and get flash card info to sudy on the areas you are weakest on.  Know the test in the back of your study module like the back of your hand.
#4...if you fail clinicals you can repeat twice....total of 3 trials...but you pay for the whole thing each time.   Be sure to take a worshop before you take the CPNE.  I took Lynn Frederick's and passed the first time.
#5...You can save the question and come back to it on the exam...so answer all you know and then go back to the others...your anxiety may be less by then.
#6...hang in there!    This is doable!  I did my program using TCN modules also...but don't let them tell you they are part of EC or partnered with them or anything of the sort.  That is like saying Johnson and Johnson is partnered with the Mayo clinic because some of the patients there use their bandaides.  They have great study modules...I got almost all A's using TCN books....just be sure you know the end of chapter quiz info and the end of book exam info well and you will do great!

Becky,

You are correct that we are not affiliated with Excelsior for the ASN program, but we have recently entered into a collaborative agreement for their BSN program.

Again, congratulations on the completion of your RN!

Sincerely,
Rick

Wondered when EC would get entangled with TCN.  Now I know to avoid their BSN program, for this reason alone.
