I really wish there were more CLEP tests!! The only things I need that I can CLEP are Sociology and Life Span (CLEP's "Human Growth and Development"). I still need to do Micro and A&P, but I'll have to do those through EC. I'm scheduled to test for A&P on 5/14. Woo hoo! Smiley

Oh, and by the way, my "official" evaluation was the exact same result as the unofficial one, which is nice ... some schools seem to add more requirements AFTER you've already paid enrollment fees!

Congrats on getting your eval! Smiley

This is my first post.  I haven't taken any EC exams yet.  Took Analyzing and Interpreting Literature as CLEP for 6 units.   I am studying for A&P, Microbiology, and NC-1 now.  I want to take these before I officially enroll.  I plan to take the exams during June and July.

Question     I am using traditional college text for A&P (by Marino) plus my LPN A&P book and various A&P "easy" texts that I've accumulated.  Using Excelsior guides, I feel I will be prepared.

I have two Excelsior recommended texts for Microbiology.

I'm using a non- Excelsior recommended text for fundamentals plus LPN/RN NCLEX Review questions (Saunders & Mosby)

What do you think of my strategies?     Thanks in advance

Hey there......i'd be sure to follow the content guide, and make sure the text books you are using covers that material.....i also bought lisa arends' study notes, and they are a great tool!!!!! I've done very well on NC#1 and 2, so, that might be something to think about.

Lisa arends study notes saved my butt on the Micro exam. I used Microbiology demystified and the excelsior textbooks. Didn't do much work in the workbook that goes with the text. But, I studied Lisa's study notes the last two days before the test and made an "A". I thought I surely failed the test during the exam and was really surprised at my final grade.

shannon

I really haven't taken enough of either to say -- I've only taken one CLEP and one EC test! (Not including EC's Info Literacy test, which was silly and easy.) The one CLEP I've taken seemed pretty easy to me -- I didn't even study for it! But it was Information Systems, and I've been a graphic designer/desktop publisher/computer professional since 1992, so I wasn't surprised that I passed it without study. Heh. I had to have a computer credit to complete my AAS degree when I was going to paramedic school in 2003, and I *refused* to pay that much for a computer class that I probably could have taught! Heh. So CLEP it was, and it worked.

Another attractive thing about CLEP tests is the price -- they're about $60. But they're essentially pass/fail, so they won't count towards your GPA (which could be a good thing OR a bad thing, ha ha!). Plus I can take a CLEP test at the local university in Winchester, vs. driving 75 miles to the Pearson VUE place.

Another alternative to CLEPS is the DSST(aka Dantes) tests which are similar and cheaper than EC tests.  the web site for those tests is getcollegecredit.com.  I just recently found out about these and plan to take Itro to Religion in June.

I just took my Micro test last week...and I also would not have passed if it hadn't been for Lisa Arends disc/help. I wasted about 3 months just flipping pages, making flash cards, writing out notes and I was getting nowhere. At least with her system she gives you a more concise way of studying...kinda highlighting what is important.
A friend of mine who took the Micro test about two years ago said, "Oh, it's easy...just make yourself go take it." but when I logged into that test and started seeing the questions coming at me I almost freaked. We're not talking simple questions about atoms and cells...it was more about which antibiotic is used to treat this disease, etc. Don't get me wrong, there were some easy questions but there were 3 times as many REALLY hard ones too...everythign from diseases, atoms, sewage treatment--you name it and it was there. When I finished I walked away with a "B" but I had no idea what standing I had when I finished. Good luck ya all!

I am a lpn in North Carolina and I was always skeptical of excelsior college. I did my research and I am 99.9% sure this is a way for me to get my RN. My question I have is is this thing really doable or what? I have good study habits and can learn things pretty fast. Im afraid that I will study the wrong thing and not be prepared for the test.  Should I take my pre-reqs at a community college to save money and get one on one interaction with an instructor?. My other question is how long is the waiting periods for the boards, I was reading that some people are waiting 7 whole months and last but not least how many people have u guys seen in this chat that actually passed?

How long did it take them to give you a official evaluation after they received your transcripts?

It took about three weeks for mine, I think ... but it took longer because they were waiting on my transcripts from Heidelberg, Germany (I went to college in Munich and earned my first associates degree in 1991), and they took longer to arrive, apparently. I submitted my stuff on November 7th and got my eval on December 1st.

Waiting sucks!  Grin

I got my unofficial eval back today . I need the information literacy,  Concepts 1 (testing next week) and then NC 3-7 then onto the dreaded CPNE. Two  questions  1) how long does the enrollment process take , I need to schedule NC3 and then can you pay out a CPNE workshop...
