"NOT SURE"

Hey guys, Maybe I need a little insight to my situation, I took my first exam on OCT 15, 07 NC1, and unfortunately I did not pass, I made a "D", since then I have began to wonder if this is the way for me to obtain my R.N, I purchased the TCN concepts, Lisaarends notes, paid for the practice exam, and I just don't know what happened. I have all of the TCN modules NC1-3-7, and A&P/Micro are on there way to be sent to my home. I was top of my class in L.P.N school and graduated with a 3.6 GPA. Preferably I would rather sit in a classroom but that also requires changing my whole life around, i:e, finding a different job, etc. Now there is this new program thur Colorado Technical University, for ADN/RN, I thought about going this route, there is no waiting list, no prerequesites required, and the next class starts in January, the kicker to the rest of this is, this 2year program is over $34,000. Help, and suggestions, or comments would be nice.
Thanks.

If you would prefer to be in a classroom, it might just work better for you than Excelsior. That program is pricey, but it'll pay for itself in the long run. As long as you can work it out, you should seriously consider it! I would have loved to be in a classroom, just because I'm a school junkie. LOL

I feel bad for you. I know that feeling, I did it on NC 4. Horrible feeling.
But lets say you were going to take NC 1 again(next wee), do you think you know where your weaknesses are?
I am assuming you have already paid the big fat enrollment fee, or you wouldnt be taking the NC exams. So I wouldnt hang it up just yet.
Now that you have taken one, you know what the stress level is, and you know how the tests are. Why dont you look thru the exams contents, and pick one that you are most familiar with. Are you good with Maternity? do NC 3, are you good with Cardio? do NC 4. I thought NC 6 was the easiest, but in saying that, everyone has their strengths. And I will say that cardio is not my strength and thats why I got a D the first time around. But I will tell you when I took it again I blew it out of the water and I know the heart like the back of my hand now. And this is because I learned from my weakness the first time.
I would try it one more time. And remember, when your taking the exam, if you dont IMMEDIATELY know the answer skip it and come back to it. There are always two completely obvious wrong answers, and two answers that sound right, but one of those are definitely right.
Hope that helps. And if you were in the top of your class you have the brains to do this. You just had a rough start. Get back on the horse. go get your rn!!!!

I prefer classroom too..unfortunately, it does not fit my schedule or my budget! It took me a while to figure out how to study on my own. I had to set up a schedule and have my family and friends hold me accountable for keeping with it. I also stress to the max right before the test...but have hung in there and am almost done with the NC classes...one Monday and 1 in three weeks from then. Don't beat yourself up for the D grade...and don't beat yourself up if distance learning just doesn't give you the structure you need. It does NOT mean we are smarter or more capable if our learning style happens to accommodate the distance learning. I would try again, though... before I change directions. Make sure you want to change before you give up the home study.....and ask us for help when you need it!

Thank you guys soo......much for all of your input, it has really helped out alot, you all are right, I need to make sure that I am making the right decisions for not only myself but my family as well, If I go to a traditional program, I would have to leave my Government Job, where I work in a Family Medicine Clinic, I have some really great perks for working with the government, sick and annual leave, raises every year, paid holidays etc....prayerfully God will lead me in the direction in am to go in. I also work another job thru Maxim Healthcare on some weekends. I actually have it pretty made right now, If i do this traditional program, I may even have to not only go to school during the day but work some evenings, not to forget my almost 6month old baby. I love this website, It's very motivational. And you guys are great. I just have alot of thinking and planning to do. I guess if it is meant for me to go to a traditional school that god will show me that, if not I need to continue on with my studies thur EC.

I totally agree with the advice given above... I would try it one more time before I threw in the towel.
I am using the stress prior to testing to my advantage. I am trying to learn how to keep my cool under pressure for the CPNE.
Also remember some of those questions are "pre-test" questions and do not count toward your grade. I tell myself that the ones I totally don't know, or don't seem to fit into the content, that those are the pre test questions as not to shake my confidence.
Good luck to ya, and I'll say a prayer for you, you'll have an answer soon!

Don't give up! I agree that ideally, we could all go to a traditional school, but, this is do-able! I have talked to a couple of people who have taken the Excelsior practice exams. I think that they cost around $60. They say that the questions are very similar to the real test, and you also get the correct answer, with the rational.
Good luck with your studies!

Thanks again for the responses, I did try the EC practice exams and I reviewed them over and over prior to the test along with Lisaarends notes, and my TCN studyguide (NC1), and I just don't know what happened. I am still going to pursue this traditional program that starts in Jan, and if this works out where I get in I will go for it, and If not, I will try again thur EC.

Hope you will be taking the NC1 exam again before January...and a good pass will boost you bunches! I would hate to see you dump the perks at your current job and leave the baby both day and night...but I do understand that sometimes we need changes in the plan in order to make it work in the long run.
