Hi Tina! I sent in my CPNE app at the end of last month, and I am currently waiting to hear back from the NPAC about a date. My question is, I know Excelsior says their pass rate for first timers is 68%, and I want to be one of those 68%! Is there anything I can do aside from practicing the critical elements, writing careplans, and setting up a mock PCS and lab at home to help me through this?
THanks

Hi,
How long did it take for you to get your CPNE exam date from the time that you applied? I am going to be trying to get a date in the next few weeks after finishing my Concepts exams and was hopeful, but they tell me it is now 6-8 months, Yuck.... such a long wait!

Jenn,
You are doing everything right. Seems like you have a lab setup at home already and are also looking over the critical elements for the PCSs. I would suggest that you incorporate the critical elements in forms of PCSs at the workplace to continue practicing for the CPNE. As you get closer to your test date, put your practice in high gear, and start timing yourself and start adding more elements such as time managment etc.
If you can afford a workshop, I would recommend a CPNE workshop just to polish, practice, and validate the information. I offer one in San Jose, CA that students have found helpful, and you can find more info about it at
www.cheducation.com
Gooooood luck with your CPNE preparation. Keep at it! You've done great and I know you can't wait to take this final leap and be done withe the program.

Regarding the wait time for getting the CPNE date:
Once you are done with all the nursing concepts, there is a little wait till your record is updated. Meanwhile you can get your physical and immunizations taken care of (Although you can't get the CPNE application until you are done with all the NC exams and are 9 units away from finishing GEs and other requirements, you can request the health status form from the learning team at Excelsior and start the physical and immunizations). Then once your application is processed, you will get a test date. I recommend getting this test date before requesting a cancellation date but know students who have called all the sites and requested cancellation date from the very start.
Getting a cancellation date means that you get the test date when someone calls and cancels their test date and can't take the test for whatever reason. This happens more than you think. Some students have even taken the test date the following weekend!!
I know that it seems like a long time till you get a date, but the test date creeps up sooooooo fast, it is almost unreal!!! Alteast that is how I felt when I tested. Before I knew it, I was in the battlezone, playing the "target"!!!

Thanks for updating about the CPNE. I am finishing my Concepts exams this month. I will call Excelsior today and get the health form that I need. I hear there is currently a 6 to 8 month wait for a date for the CPNE. This is such a shame!
Have a great day!

Terry,
6 to 8 months?? Wow, that's a lot of time. Is this for a particular CPNE test site, or in general?
Thanks,
Diahni

Just a warning! I sent in my app. in mid-March for Mansfield, OH and already got a date for Aug. 10. I was expecting Sep. or Oct. I lolly-gagged around a bit and now have to really hit the studies hard! So, my advice, when waiting for a date, pretend it's next week! Good luck to all.

any idea on what the best test site is. with the long wait I will go anywhere I guess. Live in Texas and waiting for my application pack. they sent it out about a week ago. hopefully will get in in by next week. I will be taking workshop in September in Houston but would like a test date soon after that. Also would like to pass on first try I will be very prepared (already started studing) but any suggestions would help.

I am just starting to apply for CPNE and have done my background check through the recommended mybackgroundcheck.com and my results came back wrong. I am baffled and don't really know what to do. I initiated a dispute and havent heard back yet. Is this just a way to get more money from you or what? They said I have a record in San Bernadino CA. I have never lived outside of Texas!!! This is blowing my mind. Anyone else ever had this experience?
